What is Salon Culture?
Salon culture is the heartbeat of a salon—the energy, values, and environment that shape how a team works, grows, and connects.
It’s not something you can always see, but you can feel it the moment you walk through the doors. It influences how teammates support one another, how guests are treated, how decisions are made, and how the business evolves.
A strong salon culture is built on trust, communication, and shared purpose. It fosters growth, celebrates individuality, and creates a space where both stylists and clients feel seen, supported, and inspired.
A Year of Rebuilding & Redefining
Learning about salon culture, we discovered that it is more than a buzzword. It’s the energy you feel when you walk in. It’s how your team communicates, collaborates, celebrates, and shows up for each other—and for guests. And in 2024, we worked hard to redefine what that means at Bella.
After navigating the transition of four team members, we realized it was time to reassess what Bella’s culture really stood for—and what kind of environment we wanted to create moving forward.
So we got intentional. We examined how we were leading, communicating, and how we could create a space that felt empowering, supportive, and drama-free.
We’re deeply grateful to the incredible women on our team who have helped us rebuild Bella into what it is today. In this inspiring, collaborative space, growth is celebrated and genuine connections are formed.
What Bella Culture Looks Like
We believe that salon culture begins with leadership, and it flourishes when you invest in communication, trust, and connection. Here’s how we do that:
✨ Communication
We moved from monthly 1:1s to a more impactful rhythm:
- Monthly Team Meetings on the first Friday with donuts (of course). We talk about wins, contests, updates, and team votes.
- Quarterly 1:1s to still give space for personal check-ins.
- We also use the Phorest app to track goals and performance, and the BAND app to keep communication flowing with polls, DMs, and behind-the-scenes updates.
✨ Trust
In past years, we had issues around transparency and pay conversations. But now, with a strong, drama-free team, we’ve reintroduced real-time access to performance numbers in the Phorest app. The result? Our stylists are pushing themselves, setting their own goals, and feeling more empowered than ever.
✨ Connection
We’ve learned that connection doesn’t always have to mean after-hours events. We now plan team lunches every other month during the workday—no stress, just good food, fun vibes, and time to bond. It has become something that everyone looks forward to.
Looking Ahead
We’ll be the first to say it: salon culture isn’t a destination—it’s a journey. It requires attention, intention, and care. But we believe it’s worth every bit of effort.
